Michael Rothman

Michael Rothman is a drummer, flute player, music producer, and teacher of the Alexander Technique from Brazil, with over 20 years of music studies and more than 15 years of teaching experience in various settings. He plays drum kit, transverse flute, saxophone, percussion, as well as some piano, guitar, and bass. In 2015, he moved to England to train as a teacher of the Alexander Technique, which provides him with a unique perspective on musical education and a deep understanding of instrument technique. His approach emphasizes learning instruments without strain or effort, focusing on the thinking process and emotional expression. He is dedicated to ensuring his students find both enjoyment and purpose in their practice.

Michael has performed and taught music in a wide range of settings, from musical theatre and tours with artists to brass bands, contemporary dance classes, jazz trios and quartets, and award-winning Brazilian groups. He has played for crowds of over 160,000 people during Rio's carnival and performed for notable figures such as Prince Harry and President Dilma Rousseff in Brazil.

Since 2010, he has been teaching privately, leading percussion workshops, and working in primary schools in the UK. Additionally, he has taught the Alexander Technique, both privately and as a teaching assistant at the Alexander Technique Studio training course. Annually, he teaches the Alexander Technique at the NCMC chamber music course, helping string players improve their understanding of the mind-body connection.
